If you are planning to be near Mesa, Arizona during the Christmas holiday, you are in for some rare treats.  Mesa boasts some unique and beautiful Christmas displays that can be found nowhere else.  A few ideas are listed below.

Mesa Arizona Temple and Visitor’s Center

The annual Mesa Temple Garden Christmas Lights display is enjoyed by millions every year through the month of December.  Located on Main Street in Mesa, at the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Christmas displays are breathtaking.

Hundreds of thousands of lights are used to create beautiful nativity scenes and holiday dioramas.  They stretch through and around the Temple gardens, creating a larger-than-life walking tour that will mesmerize you. Free half-hour concerts are presented every night at 7:00 PM, and feature a variety of groups and musical styles.

The adjacent Visitor’s Center offers free daily tours, and parking is also free.  For more information, directions, or a concert list, call 480-964-7164.  You can also contact Dee Hobbs at 480-969-7100, or on-line go to MesaTempleChristmas.com

Santa’s Wonderland

Bass Pro Shops in Northwest Mesa hosts Santa’s Wonderland, every December day through Christmas Eve.  Offering a unique variety of Christmas activities and shows – including photographs with Santa – this place is well worth the trip.

The 170,000-square-foot complex is known for bringing the great outdoors, indoors.  Part museum, part art gallery, and part education, conservation, and entertainment center – there is something for everyone from wall murals to shopping, from fish-feeding to a unique interior restaurant.  For more information call the Mesa store directly at 602-606-5600.  You can look them up on-line at basspro.com

Dinner Theatre

Mesa boasts one of the few dinner theatres in the Phoenix area. Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre offers cocktails, an all-you-can-eat dinner, and live Broadway entertainment for one ticket price.  You can also attend only the show if you prefer.  Special pricing is available for children and for groups.  Christmas selections this year include:

Annie: the New Deal for Christmas Winter Wonderettes: the 60’s Christmas Musical

Tickets are best bought early.  Call 480.325.6700, or go to http://www.broadwaypalmwest.com/ .

Mesa Arts Center

The four theaters that incorporate Mesa Arts Center are located downtown, along with five galleries and 14 art studios.  Several professional performances and exhibits are planned for December, including The Nutcracker, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Candlelight Messiah, and Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, among others.  For more information and directions, call the box office at 480.644.6500.  On-line go to boxoffice.mesaartscenter.com

Mesa Amphitheater

The Mesa Amphitheater is located on Center Street in Mesa.  Large enough to hold thousands, its grassy inclines still manage to feel intimate.  Although closed during the holiday week, they feature Breakfast With Santa the Saturday before Christmas.  Contact them on-line at mesaamp.com

Don’t forget to look at residential Christmas lights.  Mesa boasts some of the most beautiful in the area, and they love to see folks enjoying their displays.  Downtown Mesa is a great walking area, full of quaint shops, galleries, and coffee shops.  There is so much to see and enjoy, you’ll be tempted to return to Mesa again and again.
