As far as actual Christmas tree farms in Boise, Idaho, there is not a lot to choose from.  That’s not to say there aren’t places to buy Christmas trees, both fresh cut and artificial—stores such as Home Depot or Lowe’s, for example—but if you’re looking specifically for the traditional experience of visiting a Christmas tree farm to pick out which tree to cut down to make your own, there is only one small Christmas tree farm in Boise itself, and then another about 30 miles away in Horseshoe Bend.

* Victory Christmas Tree Farm

6809 Baron Ave.

Boise, ID 83714

(208) 853-9216

To get to Victory Christmas Tree Farm, from the intersection of Glenwood Street and State Street, drive north on Gary Lane, turn right on Baron Avenue, and go to the last house on the right.  The field of trees is behind the house.  You’ll see cut-outs of Santa, elves, and reindeer.

You can choose your tree and have it cut for you, or cut your own.  Tree types include Austrian pine, Blue spruce, Concolor fir, Douglas fir, and Scotch pine.  Free candy canes and coloring books are available for the kids.

The proprietor of Victory Christmas Tree Farm is Irene V. Victory.  The farm is open on weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but it’s a good idea to call ahead to make sure there will be someone there to help you.  This is a very small operation, and the supply is quite limited and apt to run out.

* Pine Patch Tree Farm Enterprises

8 Pine Patch Road

Horseshoe Bend, ID 83629

(208) 793-2237

www.pinepatch.net

Pine Patch is open starting the Saturday after Thanksgiving until the trees run out, weekdays 4 PM to 6 PM, and weekends 10 AM to 6 PM.

Choose from among Concolor firs, Grand firs, Norway spruces, Scotch pines, Turkish firs, and White pines.  Trees are as tall as 15 feet.  Pick out your tree and have it cut for you, or cut it yourself.

The proprietors of Pine Patch are David Bruce and Linda Sue Reay.  In addition to trees, you can also find wreaths, garlands, tree stands, and saws for cutting the trees.  Shaking service and baling are available.  There is a campfire with marshmallows and chestnuts for roasting.

Note that in years past there was an additional Christmas tree farm close to Boise:

Williams Tree Farm

4915 Larry Lane

Meridian, Idaho 83646

(208) 888-3506

But the most recent reports are that they no longer sell Christmas trees.
