There are many things to do with your kids on a rainy day in Charleston, South Carolina. Known as the “City by the Sea”, it is also a place that is rich in history. There are many places to escape the rain and enjoy not only a fun-filled afternoon, but also an educational event as well.

The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry is a museum designed for children of all ages. It includes eight different exhibits, such as an Art Room, where children can create an art project of their very own from paintings to sculptures. There is a Kid’s Garden, which features seven organic beds, bug and butterfly exhibits, a Raceway in which children learn about motion and enjoy hoops, loops and chutes, and even an Infant and Toddler room, which includes many activities to keep children three years old and under entertained. The Charleston Market is a specially designed grocery store where kids can push their own grocery carts and learn how to shop wisely. They can also create their very own snack and learn to use recipes. Other exhibits include a Medieval Creativity castle, a WaterWise room and a Pirates Ship!

The South Carolina Aquarium is another adventure for children and a great way to spend a rainy afternoon in Charleston. It not only includes an Ocean gallery which shows ocean creatures that inhabit the coast of this City by the Sea, but allows kids to view giant Sea Logger turtles, baby sharks and other sea life. The Penguin Planet shows penguins at play in the water, and there is a Touch Tank and a Mountain Forest Aviary.

Carolina Ice Palace is a cool way to spend a rainy afternoon in Charleston. It has two NHL sized ice rinks, an arcade, pro-shop and a television lounge, and offers lessons for beginners, ice-hockey lessons and figure skating lessons.

The Citadel Mall IMAX Stadium 16 is another event that children will enjoy while it is raining outside. This theatre offers 16 movie screens with one auditorium featuring the latest in 3-D cinema. Children will enjoy watching their favorite movies on a wall-to-wall screen with images that literally jump into their laps!

While these are just a few things to do with your kids on a rainy day in Charleston SC, there are many indoor activities, playrooms, art exhibits, restaurants and other attractions, which cater specifically to children. It is a wonderful and charming place to visit at any season and on any given day, rain or shine!
