ABIGAIL THORPE

About ABIGAIL

We at Like Media are excited to announce that we have added a new member to our team—Abigail Thorpe. A graduate of Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Abigail received her master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University in Chicago in 2014.

After spending several months as the online editorial intern for Real Simple Magazine in New York, she realized New York was not for her, and she returned to Chicago, where she worked as a writer for a content marketing company. “In the following years, my career went in a full circle. I moved into several sales roles for interior design companies, worked as an interior designer for Room & Board, and then ultimately came back to writing as a freelancer and, eventually, a writer for Like Media,” she says.

“Each opportunity, as varied or unexpected as it was, helped further develop me as a writer, giving me a new perspective and understanding of what I write about.”

Abigail and her family would often visit Sandpoint from California when she was a child, and as she says, “so began my love of the North Idaho panhandle.” After her parents, and later grandmother, brother, sister-in-law and nieces moved to the area, Abigail decided to follow suit and get out of the big city. “I moved here from Chicago in July of 2019 to be closer to family and establish a more fulfilling lifestyle, and I haven't looked back!”

Abigail joined the Like Media team in December of 2019 as a freelance writer. After witnessing her incredible talent as a writer, it was decided to bring her on in a more permanent role, and Abigail joined the content team as a staff writer in January of this year. “I am so excited to be back working with a content team—it’s so fulfilling to be writing about lifestyle again, especially with a local focus,” Abigail says. “And beyond that, I get to work with an incredibly talented team. It's a small team, which means we all get to interact and work together, and it's so refreshing to see what joy, passion and fun the crew brings to the table.”

In her spare time, she admits, you may find her napping! “I'll be honest, I am an avid napper. It's one of my favorite free-time luxuries. But when I'm not napping, I love exploring new (or known and loved) restaurants, cafes and cocktail bars. I like mixing my own—often to my friends' chagrin and a life-altering next-day headache,” she laughs. “Beautiful interior design lights my soul. I enjoy live music—Chicago instilled a deep love of live Jazz. In the summer you can frequently find me on some hidden beach on Lake Pend Oreille, book in hand, dog at side, sunbathing.”

Abigail is proud to call Sandpoint home, with its small-town feel combined with the vibrancy of life that this community has. “Everyone loves to call this home, and that's amazing to be a part of. It's also incredibly exciting to me to see how the town is changing and growing—I look forward to what's to come.”
